Fight Prescription Drug Abuse with AdvancedEPCS
Electronic prescribing of controlled substances helps doctor’s spot overprescribing and stops prescription painkiller overdoses. Physicians have always been able to track and monitor opiate prescriptions – whether approved on paper, oral or electronic, however, the AdvancedMD electronic prescription of controlled substances, AdvancedEPCS, helps physicians reduce overprescribing in four major areas:

  1. Integration into AdvancedEHR means the AdvancedEPCS tool auto-populates the prescription details and prescription history directly into the patient chart. Details are easily and quickly accessible on any device regardless of physician geography or proximity to the office. The prescribing physician receives a full audit history including fill and refill status.
  2. AdvancedEPCS links AdvancedMD offices to more than 14,000 certified pharmacies across 44 states.
  3. Security is improved since only authorized physicians can access and use AdvancedEPCS features with AdvancedEHR. As part of TFA (two-factor authentication), we offer multiple layers of security, including hard and soft tokens, passphrase, as well as the DEA-mandated daily audit trail and reporting.
  4. New York State and other states are offering prescription monitoring programs (PMP) to make it easier to spot overprescribing. AdvancedEPCS ties into the electronic pharmacy system that supports the PMP network, allowing physicians to more easily detect patients attempting to “doc shop” for Schedule II-V narcotics.

AdvancedMD is a pioneer in the ambulatory space by offering an EPCS solution. AdvancedEPCS is not a response to CDC guidelines, but to DEA and state requirements, which allows physicians to meet all guidelines set by the CDC.

This technology is different from any other in the market. The marketplace only has a couple of premiere EPCS tools available. AdvancedMD partnered with Dr. First and built a robust integration. The balanced integration makes it unique, as it gives physicians maximum flexibility with both AdvancedEHR and AdvancedPM products. AdvancedEPCS gives our clients the same features and functionality of any other larger health system products.

“[Our] patients are very well-educated and well-informed, and they want to see results quickly. The practice has to run extremely efficiently and be accessible to them. The nice thing about [AdvancedMD] is it has allowed me to be more efficient both in and out of the office. Now I don’t have to come back into the office, which is great for my family and everything else. It saves me a lot of time – probably an hour a day on the three days I work in the second office.”
