The first step in preparing begins with taking a moment to think of how your practice will be affected by the change from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM. Identify key systems, departments and staff members who will need to get on board. Physicians and staff will need training, practice management systems will need updating and vendors and payers will need to be contacted to talk about their readiness. Verifying that your Electronic Health Record (EHR) and practice management bundle (or separate systems) is up for the ICD-10 challenge may be the most important step to ensuring your own compliance.
