MACRA Quality: A step-by-step beginner’s guide

MACRA/MIPS

Quality Beginner's GuideJust because you are new to MACRA and MIPS doesn’t mean you need to feel like a novice. The AdvancedMD MACRA experts have produced another free resource in our MACRA Survival Series to help MACRA beginners succeed.

Our latest guide is entitled Quality Beginner’s Guide, formerly PQRS and CQMs. This step-by-step guide is designed to walk you through three key elements of MACRA Quality.

  • Within MIPS Performance categories for 2017, 60% of the weight is on Quality. We explain why and show you how to report on the 6 Measures with AdvancedMD.
  • We explain the details for each of your chosen Quality criteria and share how to set up and begin collecting necessary data. We detail the differences between two data submission methods: Claim-based reporting and EHR-based reporting.
  • We provide a simple (sort of) calculator to determine your Quality Score.

As a bonus, we show how to achieve bonus scores. Although there are no thresholds you have to achieve in the 2017 Transition, you will earn between 3 and 10 points per measure based on your participation. These will be compared to the CMS national benchmarks for that measure.

“[Our] patients are very well-educated and well-informed, and they want to see results quickly. The practice has to run extremely efficiently and be accessible to them. The nice thing about [AdvancedMD] is it has allowed me to be more efficient both in and out of the office. Now I don’t have to come back into the office, which is great for my family and everything else. It saves me a lot of time – probably an hour a day on the three days I work in the second office.”

Keith Berkowitz, MD
