Meaningful Use Public Health Reporting Update

advancedmd-articles-meaningful_public_health_reporting

Knowing that most eligible professionals (EPs) are experiencing challenges in demonstrating Modified Stage 2 objectives, AdvancedMD wants to make sure you’re informed when CMS releases new guidance on these objectives.

Recently, CMS answered questions, CMS: FAQs, related to the Public Health Reporting objective providing clarity to the options and alternate exclusions.

For providers whose registry is not available within the first 60 days of the reporting period but the registry declares readiness later in the reporting period, a provider may still register intent to meet the measure.

If you’re a provider who had not originally planned to engage with a public health agency to submit syndromic surveillance data (Measure 2) or to submit data to a specialized registry (Measure 3) you have the option to claim an alternate exclusion.

The new guidance states, “We will allow providers to claim an alternate exclusion for these measures which might require the acquisition of additional technologies providers did not previously have or did not previously intend to include in their activities for meaningful use,” as explained in CMS FAQ 14401. This alternate exclusion may enable you to meet the Public Health Reporting objective if you intended to connect only to your immunization registry or meet the exclusion requirements of the immunization registry measure.

“If you want to be focused on your practice and not worry about infrastructure, this is it. It’s transparent, just like when I plug something into the wall I’m not worried about what the voltage is and what’s the availability; it’s just there—like AdvancedMD. It does it so well sometimes you don’t appreciate it until you really think about it.”

“If we are waiting for a delivery or in between surgeries, we can log in, check messages or patient information and send electronic prescriptions as needed. Mobility is a good thing, and certainly being able to coordinate care with our patients from multiple locations is definitely a plus.”

“[Our] patients are very well-educated and well-informed, and they want to see results quickly. The practice has to run extremely efficiently and be accessible to them. The nice thing about [AdvancedMD] is it has allowed me to be more efficient both in and out of the office. Now I don’t have to come back into the office, which is great for my family and everything else. It saves me a lot of time – probably an hour a day on the three days I work in the second office.”
