A health information exchange (HIE) is a centralized repository or clearinghouse for patient health data, designed to be securely shared across multiple covered entities. This includes entities such as primary care physicians, specialists, labs, pharmacies, hospitals, community health centers, etc.

What is the API?

The API is the means through software programming for connecting and sharing data from the AdvancedMD system with other systems. It allows you to programmatically push and/or pull data to/from AdvancedMD, such as running searches, adding patients, scheduling, creating charges/payments, and much more.

Do I need a professional software developer to utilize the open API?

In most cases, yes. It will require professional software skills. We do have integrations that have been completed for many different systems, which will make the task much simpler. Check out our marketplace and find one of our many integrated partners.

I don't have a development team but need to connect AdvancedMD with another system. What do I do?

We can recommend some third-party development groups. Contact us for recommendations.

What is an API Sandbox Key?

An API Sandbox Key is nothing more than a demo office key with the specific purpose of testing an interface program before letting it run in a live office key.

How long does it take to make the API Sandbox Key?

Once our Interops team receives your request from our Implementation team, it’s normally within 24 hours.

What is included with the API Sandbox Key?

You receive login credentials, various API documentations, and tools to assist with building the interface.

Can API Sandbox Keys have real patient data?

No. For HIPAA reasons, we don’t allow API development or testing to happen with real patient data.

How do we make our interface go live?

Once you are done building and testing your interface in your sandbox, you will need to complete our API vendor worksheet, so we have documentation on what your interface does. From there, we will schedule a test if you are adding data to AdvancedMD. From there, if you want to use the interface you will need to purchase an API Connect Agreement. We will then create a set of live API credentials for you to use.
