Truth about Browser Extensions with Cloud Applications including AdvancedMD
Business

AdvancedMD is a cloud-based software platform also known as browser-based. Browser extensions (also known as ‘plug-ins’ or ‘add-ons’) are commonly used for many things ranging from ad blocking to password saving to grammar checking.
While these extensions can offer convenience, they can also cause unintended behavior that impact your experience with AdvancedMD and other browser-based software. In addition, browser extensions usually have partial or full access to everything you do online.
We suggest careful consideration when selecting and installing browser extensions. For example, below are a few recent examples of issues incurred by some of our clients:
- Major slowness and browser crashes due to extensions interfering with AdvancedMD memory management.
- Language translation extensions changing text on AdvancedMD web pages to display undesirable, strange, and even derogatory text.
These issues are obviously outside of our control. We recommend evaluating your current browser extensions and either uninstall or disable them while using AdvancedMD. Here are links to instructions that may be helpful for Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
