An AI clinical assistant is software that automates clinical documentation tasks including: ambient transcription, pre-visit summaries, and note generation, so healthcare providers spend less time on paperwork and more time delivering care.
AdvancedMD is expanding our AI enhancements and building tools that can bring the focus back to what matters most: patient care. Our AI Clinical Assistant is built natively into the AdvancedMD EHR platform, requiring no additional software, no third-party integration, and no separate login. It is purpose-built for independent and group private practices across ambulatory care specialties.
Clinicians spend an average of 16 minutes per patient encounter on EHR documentation. AdvancedMD AI Clinical Assistant is designed to reclaim that time with automating transcription, generating structured notes, and organizing clinical action items so providers can focus on the patient in front of them.
For medical groups, AdvancedMD AI Clinical Assistant reduces documentation overhead across all practice roles, from providers to clinical staff, with tools fitting into existing EHR workflows your practice already uses.

AI-Assisted Pre-Visit Summaries
Earlier this year, our team released AI-assisted Pre-visit Summaries, part of AI Clinical Assistant. Integrated into the AdvancedMD EHR platform, AI-automation creates summaries based on recent patient data—before the actual patient encounter begins. This easy-to-use tool helps providers prepare for patient visits without having to navigate multiple screens or dig through patient information.
We’ve also broadened our AI capabilities with our recent upgrade of AI-assisted transcription to include ambient listening and additional dynamic note formats. Learn more about this expanded functionality and other features coming soon below.
AI Scribe (Ambient Listening & Transcription)
AdvancedMD AI Scribe is built specifically for ambulatory care. It uses ambient listening technology paired with a clinical medical dictionary to automatically capture and transcribe provider-patient conversations and filtering for clinical relevance and distinguishing between speakers in real time.
Most importantly, AI Scribe gives full control to clinicians, allowing them to record, pause, or stop the automated transcription and recording at any time.
After the visit, AI Scribe can generate documentation in your choice of five full-dynamic note formats.
- Shareable Visit Summary
- SOAP
- Psychiatric Evaluation
- Medication Management
- Treatment Plan
Unlike standalone AI scribe tools that require third-party integrations, AdvancedMD AI Scribe operates natively within your EHR so notes are generated and saved directly to the patient chart with no export, sync, or middleware required.
AI Clinical Assistant Action Items
AI Clinical Assistant analyzes visit transcripts and generates suggested clinical note updates for the patient chart, organizing them into an actionable list. Clinical suggestions include:
- Problems (direct extract)
- Medications
- Allergies
- Risk Factors
- Lab Orders
- Appointments
- Messages
- Immunizations
These clinical suggestions can be ported into the patient chart, reducing the amount of time spent on manual entry. In addition to clinical suggestions, AI Clinical Assistant also extracts data that is typically documented inside notes, including:
- Chief Complaint
- Reason for Visit
- Vitals
- Medical History
- Family History
- Social History
- History of Present Illness
- Abnormal Exam Findings
- Assessment
- Diagnosis
- Plan
- Patient Instructions
What’s Coming in AI Clinical Assistant
AI Transcription for Telehealth (Coming soon)
For private practices offering telehealth services, AdvancedMD AI Transcription for Telehealth integrates an optional AI transcription agent into the provider’s virtual care workflow. Providers can invite the AI agent into a telehealth patient encounter at the start of a session. To help providers save time, while also giving them full control over the technology, the AI agent can be set to default “On” or “Off” based on the appointment type.
After the call, the audio file is transcribed by AI Clinical Assistant and saved to the patient’s appointment in EHR. Once the visit note is saved and linked to the appointment in the patient’s chart, the provider can view and further use the transcribed notes as part of their clinical workflow on the AdvancedMD EHR desktop platform.
AI Transcription for Mobile (Coming soon)
The AI Transcription for Mobile feature from AdvancedMD offers an efficient way for providers to capture clinical notes on the go, all from the convenience of their mobile device.
Providers can dictate notes or record a visit with their smartphone or tablet. Once the recording is complete, AI technology analyzes the recording and generates a transcript of the visit.
Reduce After-Hours Documentation and Take Back Your Pajama Time
AdvancedMD AI Clinical Assistant automates the manual documentation tasks that drive provider burnout — ambient transcription, note generation, and clinical data extraction — all within the EHR workflows your practice already uses. No new systems to learn. No after-hours chart-catching. No documentation backlog.
AdvancedMD takes a provider-first approach to AI: every AI Scribe output is reviewed and approved by the clinician before it enters the chart. No autonomous charting. No AI-generated entries without provider sign-off. Full HIPAA compliance. The provider is always in control.
AdvancedMD AI Clinical Assistant is built in direct response to feedback from independent and group practices. The tools that exist today and the ones on the roadmap reflect what private practice providers actually need: less time charting, more time caring.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does AdvancedMD AI Scribe work?
AdvancedMD AI Scribe uses ambient listening to capture the provider-patient conversation during an encounter. After the visit, AI Clinical Assistant generates a structured note in your chosen format: Shareable Visit Summary, SOAP, Psychiatric Evaluation, Medication Management, or Treatment Plan. The provider reviews and approves the note before it is saved to the patient chart.
What note formats does AdvancedMD AI Scribe generate?
AI Scribe currently generates five note formats: Shareable Visit Summary, SOAP, Psychiatric Evaluation, Medication Management, and Treatment Plan. Format selection is made after each encounter.
Does AdvancedMD AI Scribe require a separate subscription or third-party tool?
No. AI Clinical Assistant is built natively into the AdvancedMD EHR platform. There is no third-party integration, separate login, or middleware required.
What does “ambient listening” mean in an AI medical scribe?
Ambient listening means the AI captures spoken conversation in the exam room without requiring a physician to dictate commands or pause the encounter. The AI filters speech for clinical relevance and distinguishes between provider and patient voices automatically.
Is AdvancedMD AI Scribe HIPAA compliant?
Yes. AdvancedMD AI Clinical Assistant is HIPAA compliant. All audio and transcription data is processed within AdvancedMD’s secure, compliant infrastructure.
How does AdvancedMD AI Scribe integrate with billing and practice management?
Because AI Scribe is built directly into the AdvancedMD EHR platform, transcribed notes save natively to the patient chart and flow into existing practice management and billing workflows without any additional setup or synchronization.
