AdvancedMD Launches AdvancedEPCS to Enable ePrescribing of Controlled Substances for Independent Physician Practices

AdvancedMD Leads Field of Ambulatory Technology Providers with Release of Secure, Streamlined EPCS Solution

South Jordan, UT – Jan. 19, 2016 – AdvancedMD, a pioneer in cloud technology for physician practices, today introduced AdvancedEPCS, a new ePrescribing technology that meets strict regulatory requirements for DEA class II-V narcotics. Stage 2 certified AdvancedMD enables independent physicians to meet EPCS regulatory requirements and other evolving regulatory requirements with high levels of security.

AdvancedEPCS streamlines prescribing of controlled substances and offers strict security with two-factor authentication. Physician practices get a full audit history including what drug was prescribed, who prescribed it, dosage and refills remaining, date and time, pharmacy, prescription status, and prescription history by provider. The technology, available to all AdvancedEHR customers, automatically checks for formulary drugs and contraindications such as drug-drug, drug-food, and drug-allergy information, all offered within the AdvancedMD system.

“AdvancedEPCS gives independent physician practices powerful security and built-in checks that increase productivity while meeting meaningful use and state mandates,” said Raul Villar, CEO, AdvancedMD. “This is a powerful addition to our cloud platform, which is dedicated to giving independent physicians the freedom to practice and succeed.”

Many state governments, including New York, Ohio, and Nevada, are pursuing mandatory EPCS to reduce prescription medication abuse and increase quality of care. In addition, new, stricter opiate prescription guidelines are expected from the CDC this year. Independent physicians using AdvancedMD will be able to fulfill controlled substance prescriptions quickly, without having to switch to another technology platform, or even a paper-based process.

“My practice is now able to electronically prescribe 80-90 percent of our prescriptions.  It is easy and there is no extra work involved,” said Dr. Guy Lerner, Specialists in Pain Care, Louisville, Kentucky. “In addition, it allows me to conveniently prescribe schedule 2 drugs while eliminating security concerns.  There are no paper scripts to lose, and we can easily track the prescriptions at the pharmacy.”

AdvancedEPCS is available now. For more information, please visit the AdvancedEPCS webpage or call (800) 825-0224.
