Patient Consent (EHR)
Consent to Share Data with Health Information Exchange
We have added a third patient consent to the Demographics tab in EHR. This consent is for the patient to allow or deny sharing their health data with Health Information Exchanges (HIEs). The new consent feature works like the other two consents, displaying if consent was Given or Denied, or if consent is Not Obtained yet.
Implementation sets the default consent option for all patients in PM Utilities | System Defaults | EHR | Send Data to Health Information Exchange. If you need this default changed contact Client Support Services.
Note: The patient’s option to Confirm or Decline the Consent to Share Data with HIEs is based on state regulations. For those states authorizing providers to share patient data with HIEs when the information is needed for public health purposes, the data can be submitted to the public health agency (including immunization registries) whether the patient confirms or declines the Consent to Share Data with HIEs.
